KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has said that 10 posts of elected representatives at the local level have fallen vacant after the representatives switched political parties.
Issuing a notice on Wednesday, the EC said four posts in Madhes Province, three in Koshi Province, two in Bagmati Province, and one in Sudurpaschim Province are currently vacant.
In Madhes Province, the vacant posts are the chairpersons of Shahidnagar Municipality-5 in Dhanusha and Bideha Municipality-6, and the ward chairpersons of Kamala Municipality-5 and Mithila Municipality-2.
In Koshi Province, the vacant posts include the chairperson of Dhanpalthan Rural Municipality-5 in Morang, the vice-chairperson of Barahpokhari Rural Municipality in Khotang, and the ward chairperson of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality-3.
Similarly, in Bagmati Province, the ward chairperson of Jiri Municipality-6 and the chairperson of Jiri Municipality-3 in Dolakha have left their respective positions vacant after joining other political parties. In Sudurpaschim Province, the post of vice-chairperson of Bardagoriya Rural Municipality in Kailali is vacant.
The EC said it received decisions from the central committees of the concerned political parties regarding elected local representatives who switched parties after being elected in the 2079 BS local-level elections. The representatives had been elected from various political parties, including the then CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist).
The EC published the notice for the information of all concerned in accordance with Rule 22(2) of the Political Parties Regulations, 2074.
