District administration cautions RSP over election code of conduct



KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat–Susta West), has drawn the attention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to strictly comply with the election code of conduct.

The administration said it received information about a public outreach and bell-greeting program of RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane scheduled to be held today at the district headquarters, Parasi. In this context, the party has been urged not to carry out activities that would attract the election code of conduct.

Assistant Chief District Officer and Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Officer Poshan Raj Bhandari said the reminder was issued as the election code of conduct is already in force for the election scheduled on March 5.

“We have not prohibited the program,” Bhandari said. “However, political parties or candidates are not allowed to display jackets, shirts, vests, T-shirts, caps, scarves, masks or any attire bearing party symbols, nor stickers, logos, bags, badges or other symbolic materials that may violate the code of conduct.”

Earlier, audiovisual materials circulating on social media showed party cadres carrying and ringing bells and wearing badges during Chair Lamichhane’s public outreach programs held in different districts.

Bhandari said the attention notice was issued to make it clear that activities contrary to the election code of conduct should not be carried out by candidates or any other individuals.

He also stated that the Election Commission had enforced the Election Code of Conduct, 2026, with a notice issued on January 28, to ensure that the upcoming election of the House of Representatives member is conducted in a free, fair, clean, transparent, economical and fear-free environment.

According to the attention letter issued regarding compliance with the Election Code of Conduct, 2026, the District Administration Office stated that it had received information about the RSP Chair’s public outreach and bell-greeting program in the district on February  10, and informed all concerned not to engage in activities that would violate the election code of conduct.
