KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has said that Nepal must adopt a new economic model for infrastructure development over the next five years, arguing that long-standing problems cannot be solved through quick fixes or magic-like decisions.
Active on social media, Thapa said that breaking contracts or making impulsive decisions would not address the structural challenges facing the country’s infrastructure sector.
“Our biggest problem is that infrastructure projects are not completed on time. This has significantly increased the cost of development,” Thapa said. “Completing projects directly linked to people’s lives, such as roads and irrigation, on time, with quality and transparency, is our commitment.”
Thapa stated that the Nepali Congress aims to set an example within five years, demonstrating that Nepal can change its approach to infrastructure development through proper planning, accountability, and a reformed economic model.
He stressed that sustainable development requires systemic reform rather than short-term measures, adding that timely and transparent project execution should be the core priority moving forward.
