Shram Sanskriti Party chair Harka Raj Rai fined for traffic violation after viral biking video

KATHMANDU: Police have taken action against Harka Raj Rai, the chair of the Shram Sanskriti Party and a member of the House of Representatives, for allegedly violating traffic regulations.

According to police, Rai was fined after authorities received public complaints and reviewed footage circulating on social media showing him operating a motorcycle in violation of traffic rules.

“Based on public complaints received through social media regarding traffic rule violations, legal action has been taken against Honorable Harka Raj Rai,” police said in a statement.

Police also urged all drivers, passengers, and transport operators to comply with traffic regulations and act responsibly on the road.

The action follows an accident involving Rai on June 5. He was reportedly injured while recording a vlog and riding a motorcycle without properly fastening his helmet strap.

The incident left him with injuries, including to his hand. After videos of the ride circulated online, calls for legal action against Rai grew on social media, with critics accusing him of reckless driving.

Police have not disclosed the exact amount of the fine but confirmed that the traffic violation case has been addressed in accordance with the law.
