KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal is set to visit China on June 14 for a series of high-level meetings focused on bilateral relations, economic cooperation and trade, according to sources close to the minister.
During the visit, Khanal is scheduled to hold talks on June 15 and 16 with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and senior Chinese Communist Party official Liu Haixing.
Sources said discussions will cover economic assistance, bilateral relations, economic policy and broader areas of cooperation between Nepal and China.
The foreign minister is also expected to hold high-level consultations on strengthening trade ties and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The visit comes just days after Khanal returned from India, where he completed a two-day official trip and returned to Kathmandu on Sunday.
According to the proposed schedule, Khanal will depart for China on June 14 and return on June 17.
The visit also comes as Prime Minister Balen Shah prepares for a visit to India in June. Sources indicate that the prime minister is also considering a subsequent visit to China as part of ongoing diplomatic engagements with Nepal’s two largest neighbors.
Khanal’s upcoming China trip is expected to focus on advancing bilateral cooperation and maintaining momentum in Nepal’s relations with Beijing following his recent engagements in New Delhi.
