KATHMANDU: An all-party meeting called by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane was held at the Public Accounts Committee hall in Singha Durbar on Monday, with leaders discussing the ongoing parliamentary deadlock and other contemporary political issues.
During the meeting, Lamichhane briefed leaders from various political parties about his recent visit to India and exchanged views on national issues, inter-party dialogue and matters of public importance.
Participating leaders welcomed the initiative, saying the all-party meeting had created an environment for political dialogue at a time of growing tensions in Parliament.
They also shared their views on the country’s current political situation, the effective functioning of Parliament and the need for cooperation among political parties.
Despite the discussions, opposition parties maintained their stance on the ongoing parliamentary obstruction.
Speaking after the meeting, CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Bahadur Mahar said protests in Parliament would continue until Prime Minister Balen Shah appears before the House and responds to concerns raised over his recent remarks.
Mahar accused the prime minister of making statements contrary to the national interest and argued that the issue could not be resolved without a formal response in Parliament.
He also claimed that India continues to encroach on Nepali territory and linked the controversy to what he described as the prime minister’s objectionable remarks on national sovereignty.
Ending the deadlock in the Federal Parliament was one of the main agendas of the meeting. Lamichhane urged political parties to reach a common understanding to remove the obstruction and allow regular parliamentary proceedings to resume.
Discussions among party representatives on the issue were continuing, and participants said details of any conclusions would be made public later.
