Bridge over Nawalparasi’s Kerunge River completed after eight years

NAWALPARASI: Eight years after construction began, a bridge over the Kerunge River in Kawasoti Municipality, Nawalparasi (east of Bardaghat Susta), has finally been completed.

Construction of the bridge started in 2075 BS, while Adventure Construction Company took over the project in 2077 BS. Following multiple deadline extensions, the bridge has now been completed, according to Narayan Prasad Lohani, ward chair of Kawasoti Municipality–4.

The 140-metre-long bridge, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 105 million, connects wards 3 and 4 of Kawasoti Municipality and has significantly eased mobility for local residents. Ward Chair Lohani said the absence of a bridge had long caused hardship, particularly during the monsoon season when flooding forced people to take lengthy detours to reach market areas or, at times, cross the river itself.

“During floods, people had to travel long distances to reach the market, and in normal conditions they were compelled to cross the river. That hardship has now ended,” Lohani said, adding that although the construction process was slow, the bridge has greatly improved local movement.

Built under the Road Division Office, Bharatpur, the bridge has also improved access for residents of Hupsekot Rural Municipality, making it easier to reach the district headquarters in Kawasoti.

Rukmangat Bhurtel, a local resident of Hupsekot, said the bridge has reduced travel time significantly. “Previously, we had to take a long route via Danda to reach the district headquarters. Now, we can reach Kawasoti directly from Hasaura through the new bridge,” he said.
