KATHMANDU: A newborn baby delivered at the Radhaswami-based holding center in Kirtipur has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia and is currently receiving intensive care at the NICU of Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital in Thapathali.
According to hospital sources, the baby, born a few days ago in apparently stable condition, suddenly developed complications and was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit after signs of severe pneumonia emerged.
Health workers involved in the treatment said the infant’s condition has shown gradual improvement after receiving specialized care, though continuous monitoring remains necessary.
Family members said the baby was born through a surgical procedure and later developed health complications. They also expressed concerns that the mother’s nutritional intake had been limited in the holding center, which they believe may have contributed to the weakened condition of both mother and child.
Authorities have not issued an official statement linking the medical condition to living arrangements at the center. The infant remains under observation as doctors continue treatment.
