Govt has ambitious economic reforms to restore private sector confidence: Finance Minister Wagle

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said the government has announced ambitious economic reforms aimed at restoring confidence in the private sector and addressing long-standing structural issues in the economy.

Speaking at an event in Kathmandu, Minister Wagle claimed that this is the first time since 1990 that such a comprehensive set of economic reforms has been introduced with high ambition.

Wagle said the government is committed to completing long-pending infrastructure projects that have remained unfinished for years, adding that sufficient budget has been allocated to ensure their completion without being driven by political competition for credit.

He also said that around Rs 7–8 billion has been allocated under the Energy Ministry to complete stalled transmission line projects within one year.

The finance minister emphasized that poverty cannot be reduced merely by distributing money, but requires job creation and a more active private sector.

He said the government is prioritizing economic growth through private sector mobilization and investment expansion.

Wagle also urged the public not to remain confused about the proposed tax policies, saying the government will ensure that end consumers are not burdened by tax changes.

He added that a government with a strong public mandate is responsible for driving national and economic reforms and stressed the need for clear communication with citizens while implementing such changes.
