Election candidates warned against publishing false or deceptive advertisements

KATHMANDU: Ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives election, the Advertising Board has urged candidates not to publish or broadcast misleading advertisements.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the board said it has received complaints about actions on social media and other platforms that directly or indirectly demean political parties, candidates, leaders, or workers, or create confusion among voters.

The board also noted that in coordination with the Election Commission, it monitors, regulates, investigates, and takes action against advertisements during the election period.

“The Advertising Board, as the regulatory body for advertisements, is conducting a detailed study of content that misleads voters, demeans candidates, or uses false audio-visual material to manipulate public opinion,” the statement said.

The board emphasized that any activities violating the Advertising (Regulation) Act, 2019; Advertising (Regulation) Rules, 2020; Election Code of Conduct, 2026; or the Election Advertisement Code of Conduct, 2023, will be subject to strict legal action.
