Prachanda says Sept 9 destruction was a planned design, not Gen Z protest

NEW DELHI: Nepali Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has described the nationwide destruction on September 9 in Nepal as part of a large-scale design and plan, clarifying that it was not caused by the Gen Z movement.

Speaking at the ‘Unity Message Assembly and Interaction Program’ for Nepali expatriates in Delhi on Monday, Prachanda said the killings of young students on September 8 were unacceptable and brutal.

“The killing of young students on September 8 was inhumane. But the destruction and arson across the country on September 9 were not carried out by Gen Z. It was organized with a major design and plan,” he said.

While reiterating support for the Gen Z movement, Prachanda emphasized that the looting and chaos that followed could not be condoned. “There was fear and terror across the country that day. We worked overnight to manage the situation and even held talks with the President to find a way out,” he said.

He further highlighted that his party had been the first to adopt and support the movement, and blamed the Nepali Congress and UML for removing the corruption control measures of his government, which, according to him, contributed to the current crisis.
