Government highlights relief package for Gen-Z movement victims in 100-day report

The government has announced an integrated support package for those injured during the Gen-Z movement and the families of those who lost their lives, covering financial assistance, medical treatment, employment support, and welfare services. The measures were outlined in the government’s 100-day progress report released on Saturday by government spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel. According to the report, the government has prepared operational guidelines to establish a Gen-Z Welfare Council, which will serve as the focal body for coordinating welfare programmes and support for those affected by the movement.

Constitution amendment task force to submit report by mid-July

Asim Shah, Prime Minister Balen Shah’s chief political adviser and coordinator of the task force formed to prepare a discussion paper on constitutional amendment, has said the panel is preparing to submit its report to the prime minister by the end of Asar (mid-July). Speaking at a press conference on Saturday marking the government’s first 100 days in office, Shah said the task force is making steady progress on its assignment. “We are preparing to submit the report to the prime minister by the end of Asar. The task force has been consulting various stakeholders, constitutional experts, and political parties. We have now reached the report-writing stage,” he said.

Government unveils roadmap to boost electricity consumption and exports

The government has unveiled a long-term roadmap aimed at increasing domestic electricity consumption and expanding power exports, identifying the energy sector as a key driver of Nepal’s economic transformation. Releasing its 100-day progress report on Saturday, the government said it has prepared the Energy Consumption Growth and Export Strategy, 2083, in line with the governance reform agenda endorsed by the Cabinet on March 27, 2026 (Chaitra 13, 2082). Under the government’s 100-point reform plan, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation was tasked with preparing an energy export strategy within one month and developing mechanisms to secure higher prices for electricity exported during peak demand periods. Accordingly, Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha formed a committee on April 23 under Joint Secretary Sandip Kumar Dev to prepare a comprehensive strategy for increasing domestic electricity use and expanding electricity exports.

Balen government marks 100 days, highlights governance reforms and anti-corruption drive

Prime Minister Balen Shah’s government has completed its first 100 days in office, highlighting a wide range of governance reforms, anti-corruption measures, digital service expansion, and administrative restructuring as key achievements. Unveiling its 100-day progress report on Saturday, the government said it had approved a 100-point governance reform agenda during its first Cabinet meeting on March 27, 2026 (Chaitra 13, 2082), describing the initial 100 days as the foundation for long-term institutional reform. The government said it has prioritized administrative reform, public service delivery, digital governance, fiscal discipline, good governance, and infrastructure development. Among its major initiatives is the formation of a high-level Asset Investigation Commission under the Commission of Inquiry Act to investigate the assets of political office-bearers and senior government officials who have held public office since the 2006 People’s Movement. The commission has already collected more than 11,000 asset declarations and complaints, which are currently under preliminary review.

Displaced landless families await permanent housing despite government’s 100-day claims

As the new government marks its first 100 days in office and highlights its achievements, landless families displaced from riverbanks and informal settlements say they are still waiting for a permanent housing solution. Currently, 54 people from 24 displaced families are living at a government-operated holding centre in Bode, Bhaktapur. They were relocated there after their homes were demolished without an alternative permanent settlement. Another 24 families who had initially stayed at the centre have since left. Displaced residents, including Goma Tiwari, Surbir Tiwari, Manju Tamang, Man Kumari Bisungkhe, Subhadra Neupane, and Pavitra Sapkota, have urged the government to ensure their long-term resettlement.

Border security and police infrastructure among government’s top priorities: Home Minister

Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said strengthening border security and upgrading police infrastructure are among the government’s top priorities. Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport during his visit to Morang to assess the security situation along the Nepal-India border, Gurung said the government is preparing to rebuild and upgrade dilapidated police office buildings across the country. He said he was aware of the poor condition of police infrastructure in several districts, adding that improving physical facilities is essential to making the police organization more effective.

Public Procurement Bill aims to remove bottlenecks in infrastructure projects: Minister Gautam

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam has said the government introduced the Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2083 to accelerate infrastructure development by removing long-standing legal and procedural bottlenecks. Presenting a proposal on behalf of Prime Minister Balen Shah in the National Assembly on Saturday to consider the bill received from the House of Representatives, Gautam said the amendment is intended to address obstacles that have delayed infrastructure projects. She said legal reforms are essential to ensure development projects are implemented in a faster, simpler, and more effective manner in line with the public’s aspirations for prosperity.

Government formed on gimmicks will not last long: Oli

KP Sharma Oli, chair of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML), has claimed that the current government, formed on the basis of “gimmicks,” will not survive for long. Addressing the launch of the party’s Jagaran Campaign at the UML central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, on Saturday, Oli alleged that there were organized efforts to create an “anti-national narrative” against the party and undermine its public image. He said the UML would firmly confront what he described as misinformation and propaganda. Commenting on the current administration, Oli said a government built on “spectacle and gimmicks” lacks a strong foundation and is therefore unlikely to remain in office for long.

Prachanda warns government of protests if ‘wrongdoings’ continue

Pushpa Kamal Dahal, coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), has warned that his party will launch protests if the government continues what he described as “wrongful activities.” Addressing the first unification meeting and training program of the party’s Lumbini Province Committee in Butwal on Saturday, Prachanda said the party is closely observing the political situation and will decide on its next course of action in the coming months. “We are waiting for the right time to speak. If necessary, we will not only speak but also fight strongly,” he said, warning that the party is prepared to take to the streets if required.

Finance Minister vows to remove Nepal from FATF grey list

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said the government is committed to removing Nepal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list by fully implementing the required reforms. Presenting a proposal in the National Assembly to consider the Asset (Money Laundering Prevention) (Third Amendment) Bill, Wagle said the government’s efforts to exit the grey list require the full support of all stakeholders. He said Nepal would address all issues identified by the FATF through a time-bound action plan and implement the recommendations effectively. The finance minister warned that Nepal could face the risk of being placed on the FATF blacklist if the recommendations are not implemented, urging lawmakers to recognize the seriousness of the issue and support the proposed legislation.

Shekhar Koirala gives NC establishment until July 9 to decide on party unity

Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has given the party’s establishment faction until July 9 to make a clear decision on party unity, according to sources close to him. The sources said Koirala conveyed the deadline to the party leadership through Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma. Koirala has indicated that if no clear decision on party unity is reached by the deadline, he will determine his future political strategy accordingly. In recent days, he has held separate meetings with senior party leaders, including Purna Bahadur Khadka, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Dr. Shashanka Koirala, and Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, to discuss the evolving political situation within the party.

Nepal Teachers’ Federation forms Kathmandu district committee for the first time

The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has formed its Kathmandu District Committee for the first time, unanimously electing Ganesh Prasad Guragain as its founding chairperson. According to the federation, a 27-member district working committee was unanimously selected under Guragain’s leadership. He previously served as chairperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Committee of the Nepal National Teachers’ Organization. Krishna Raj Kattel has been elected vice-chairperson, Basudev Khanal as vice-chairperson, Tara Adhikari as women vice-chairperson, Narayan Prasad Gautam as secretary, Samundra Timilsina as open joint secretary, Govinda Prasad Paudel as joint secretary (finance), Anita Adhikari as women joint secretary, and Diwas Babu Pokharel and Ram Hari Dhakal as institutional joint secretaries. The committee members include Surya Bahadur Khadka, Chakra Bahadur Bista, Bhagawati Silwal, Sarita Kumari Prasain, Shravan Basnet, Tara Mishra, Sumitra Sigdel, Babita Sahi Thakuri, Dinesh Lama, Bharat Bhandari, Srijana Khadka Giri, Surya Kumar Upadhyay, Dilli Raj Gyawali, Binod Khanal, Sushila Khanal, Bir Ballabh Ghimire, and Tejendra Subedi.

Infrastructure Minister inspects Beni–Jomsom–Korala road project in Mustang

Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal has visited Mustang to inspect the Beni–Jomsom–Korala Road Project, a national pride project linking Nepal’s north and south. Lamsal reached Lete in Thasang Rural Municipality-3 on Friday via the Beni–Jomsom road. He was accompanied by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel, along with officials from the ministry and various government departments. According to Tejaswi Sharma, chief of the Korala Road Project, the inspection aimed to assess the project’s construction progress, tourism promotion potential, and the need for additional infrastructure. During the visit, the delegation held discussions on infrastructure development along the Jomsom–Korala section in the presence of former House of Representatives member Prem Prasad Tulachan.

Series of meetings among senior NC leaders fuels speculation over internal strategy

A series of meetings among senior leaders of the Nepali Congress over the past three days has drawn attention amid evolving political dynamics within the party. From Thursday through Saturday, influential party leaders held separate discussions at different locations, focusing on the current political situation and the party’s internal strategy. On Thursday, senior leader Purna Bahadur Khadka met with Shashanka Koirala at Khadka’s residence in Golfutar. Later the same day, Khadka also held a separate meeting with Shekhar Koirala in Maharajgunj. Separately, Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh, and Dr. Shashanka Koirala met at Baneshwor Heights on Thursday.

Retired civil servants to receive pending benefits by July 9

The Financial Comptroller General’s Office (FCGO) has directed all District Treasury Controller Offices (DTCOs) to process and disburse pending benefits to retired civil servants by July 9. According to the FCGO, the directive covers payments for gratuity, accumulated leave, and medical treatment expenses owed to retired government employees. Accounts Officer Subhash Chandra Aryal said a circular has been sent to the concerned offices instructing them to release the payments within the revised deadline. Aryal said the extension follows a decision made on July 3, under Sub-rule (2) of Rule 30 of the Financial Procedures and Financial Responsibility Regulations, 2077, which extends the authorization period for processing and disbursing payments.

APF deploys divers to search for bus and missing passengers in Karnali River

The Armed Police Force (APF) has deployed a team of divers to search for a passenger bus and its missing occupants after the vehicle plunged into the Karnali River in Dailekh district. The bus went missing after veering off the Karnali Highway at Sangetada in Chamunda Bindrasaini Municipality-7 on July 2 while travelling from Surkhet to Kalikot. According to APF spokesperson Shailendra Thapa, a four-member diving team led by Police Inspector Prem Bahadur Tamang reached the accident site on Friday to continue the search operation. The team is using specialized equipment, including sonar cameras and magnets, to locate the submerged vehicle and search the riverbed.

127 killed, 773 injured in disaster-related incidents since April

At least 127 people have died and 773 others have been injured in disaster-related incidents across Nepal between April 14 and July 3, 2026, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said a total of 2,721 disaster incidents were recorded during the reporting period, affecting 3,722 families nationwide. According to the disaster bulletin released on Friday, snakebite claimed the highest number of lives, with 23 deaths reported in 398 incidents. Landslides killed 21 people in 54 incidents, while lightning strikes claimed 19 lives in 205 incidents. The bulletin states that 34 people were injured in landslides and 98 others in lightning-related incidents.

UML calls Balen-led government’s first 100 days weak and controversial

The CPN-UML has described the first 100 days of the government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah as weak, immature, and controversial. In a press statement issued on Friday, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said the party had concluded that the government’s performance during its first 100 days had failed to meet public expectations. The UML accused the government of contradicting its election manifesto and policy commitments, alleging inconsistency in its governance. The party also criticized the government’s approach to constitutional amendment, saying it had moved ahead without consulting political parties and had attempted to proceed in a non-transparent manner. It further accused the government of undermining federalism by trying to centralize authority.

Man arrested for alleged illegal cryptocurrency transactions worth over Rs 14.8 million

Nepal Police have arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of conducting illegal cryptocurrency transactions worth more than Rs 14.8 million. Mukesh Prajapati of Madhyapur Thimi-5, Bhaktapur, was arrested by a team from the Kathmandu District Police Range and presented to the media on Friday. According to police, Prajapati allegedly used social media to lure people with various schemes, defrauded them, and converted the proceeds into cryptocurrency for illegal transactions. Kathmandu District Police Range spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said the investigation has found that Prajapati carried out cryptocurrency transactions worth Rs 14,876,527.46.

Tirtha Prasad Shrestha appointed PADT member-secretary

The government has appointed noted author Tirtha Prasad Shrestha as the member-secretary of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT).

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel, who also chairs the PADT Governing Council, appointed Shrestha through a ministerial decision made on July 1–2, according to the ministry.

Shrestha has already assumed office.

After taking charge, he pledged to facilitate worship and religious activities at the Pashupati Temple, strengthen transparency in the Trust’s operations, and work towards preserving the cultural, traditional, and religious heritage of the Pashupati area.
