KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa has reached 289, with more bodies being recovered from riverbanks and surrounding areas.
According to the latest details, the number of people confirmed dead in the floods has continued to rise as security personnel search for those reported missing.
The District Police Office, East Nawalparasi, said 81 bodies have so far been recovered in the district alone.
Of the 81 bodies, 55 have been kept at seven hospitals in the district, while the remaining 26 bodies are still at the recovery sites and preparations are underway to transport them to hospitals, police said.
Among the bodies recovered in East Nawalparasi, 22 are women, 33 are men, six are boys and nine are girls. The identities of 11 bodies have not yet been established.
Earlier, 108 bodies had been recovered in Chitwan, 15 in West Nawalparasi, 27 in Dhading, 20 in Gorkha, 12 in Nuwakot, nine in Tanahun and 17 in Rasuwa.
The floods have caused extensive loss of life and property, with many people still feared missing in rivers and surrounding areas.
Police have mobilised security personnel to search riverbanks and other possible locations for those missing.
Authorities are also continuing efforts to identify the recovered bodies and hand them over to their respective families.
