KATHMANDU: Nepal opening batter Kushal Bhurtel has etched his name into the record books by scoring consecutive T20 International centuries, becoming the first Nepali player to achieve the feat.
During Nepal’s Asian Games qualification match against Malaysia national cricket team on Thursday, Bhurtel reached his century in just 44 deliveries. It was the third T20I century of his international career.
The milestone comes just days after his explosive knock against China national cricket team, where he blasted a century off only 35 balls before being dismissed for 129 runs from 43 deliveries.
With the latest ton, Bhurtel became the first Nepali cricketer to score back-to-back T20I centuries and only the 10th player in the world to accomplish the feat in men’s T20 internationals.
He was eventually dismissed for 126 runs off 54 balls, an innings studded with 14 fours and eight sixes.
Bhurtel had registered his maiden T20I century against the Philippines national cricket team in 2022.
His latest innings further cements his status as one of Nepal’s most prolific white-ball batters and provides a major boost to the national team’s campaign in the Asian Games qualifiers.
