KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has initiated efforts to address the growing problems in Nepal’s health insurance system.
As part of this process, she has called a meeting of key stakeholders at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers this afternoon, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The move comes amid mounting concerns after hospitals in various parts of the country decided to halt services under the health insurance scheme, citing non-payment of dues by the Health Insurance Board.
Health service providers have said that delays in reimbursement for a prolonged period have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing services under the insurance programme.
According to the Health Insurance Board, payments of more than Rs 10 billion remain outstanding to listed health institutions across the country.
The meeting is expected to focus on identifying immediate measures to clear pending payments and ensure the continuity of health services under the national health insurance scheme.
