KATHMANDU: Following the devastating flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, which caused extensive damage to settlements along the riverbanks, Prime Minister Balen Shah left for Bidur, Nuwakot, on Thursday morning to inspect the flood-affected areas.
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Sunil Lamsal is accompanying Prime Minister Shah. The team departed for the affected areas by road at 9:30 a.m.
Amid an all-party meeting underway in Parliament and continued political discussions, Prime Minister Shah has personally visited the field to oversee and facilitate rescue and relief operations. Earlier, he had convened a high-level meeting and instructed concerned government agencies to expedite rescue and relief efforts.
Due to time constraints, Prime Minister Shah is scheduled to focus Thursday’s visit on flood-affected settlements in Bidur and surrounding areas of Nuwakot. During the visit, the Prime Minister and the Infrastructure Minister will discuss the extent of damage, relief efforts and reconstruction plans with the local administration, elected representatives and security agencies.
Prime Minister Shah has directed authorities to immediately restore essential infrastructure, including roads, bridges and electricity, disrupted by the floods and to accelerate reconstruction efforts.
