Probe Commission team takes Oli’s statement at his Gundoo residence

A probe commission led by former justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, formed to investigate vandalism and violence that occurred on September 8 and 9 in the name of the Gen-Z movement, has taken a statement from then prime minister KP Sharma Oli. The commission team went to Oli’s residence in Gundoo, Bhaktapur, and delivered a letter asking him to submit his statement within seven days. However, Oli immediately provided a written statement at his residence itself, responding to around 60 questions, according to a member of his secretariat.

NC meeting concludes special convention no longer justified

A meeting of senior and former leaders of the institutional wing, convened by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, concluded that there is no longer a justification for holding a special party convention. The meeting, held at President Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj on Sunday, noted that since the party has already set the date for the regular general convention, the rationale for a special convention has lapsed.

RSP’s second General Secretary post likely for Balen camp, not Kulman

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to add four new office bearers following its central committee meeting held on Sunday. The newly added positions include one vice-chair, one general secretary, one joint general secretary, and one joint spokesperson.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to amend its statute to add four new office-bearer positions. The decision was taken at a Central Committee meeting held on Sunday at Ghantighar, Banasthali. According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, the move to create additional positions, including a vice-chair and other posts, was made to implement agreements reached during the party’s integration and expansion process.

RSP forms two subcommittees to advance candidate selection and party unity

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to form two subcommittees focused on party integration and election preparations. The decision was taken during a Central Committee meeting held on Sunday at the party’s central office in Ghantighar, Banasthali. According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, a Candidate Recommendation Subcommittee has been formed under the coordination of Vice-Chair Dr Swarnim Wagle to ensure the selection of qualified candidates for the House of Representatives election in 2026.

Seven leaders, including Ranju Darshana, appointed as RSP central committee members

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has nominated seven leaders who joined from other political parties to its Central Committee. A meeting of the party’s Central Committee held on Sunday at the central office in Banasthali formally endorsed the nominations. According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, the decision was taken by the 58th meeting of the Central Committee as part of the party integration process.

Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha delegation meets PM Karki

A delegation from the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha (Tharu Welfare Association) met with Prime Minister Sushila Karki today to extend an invitation to the upcoming Tharu Rastriya Maghi Mahotsav. Premilal Chaudhary, coordinator of the festival’s main organizing committee and President of the Sabha, formally invited Prime Minister Karki to the event, scheduled for Magh 1 (January 15) at Tundikhel, Kathmandu.

Oli and Prachanda meet amid concerns over election environment

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held talks today, marking what is likely their first bilateral meeting since the Gen-Z movement. The two leaders held a cordial discussion at a residence near the CPN-UML office in Chyasal, Lalitpur. During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the current political situation and expressed concern that the government has humiliated political parties and their top leaders instead of creating a conducive environment for the upcoming elections.

Security tightened in 8 districts after Birgunj unrest

Security arrangements have been heightened across all eight districts of Madhesh Province following tensions in Birgunj, a city in Nepal’s southern district of Parsa, since Sunday morning. A large number of security personnel have been deployed to areas identified as potential flashpoints for clashes. The alert was raised after a dispute, which began in Dhanusha over a TikTok video, spread to Birgunj. The police confirmed that several individuals have been taken into custody and an investigation is underway.

First phase of tiger census completed in Chitwan National Park

The tiger census in Chitwan National Park, which began on December 18, 2025, is underway. Chitwan and Parsa National Parks are being counted as a single block, with the first phase of the census now completed. According to Avinash Thapa Magar, the Park’s Information Officer, the next step involves setting up camera traps. “Camera setup began on Saturday, and the first phase will be completed by Monday,” he said. A total of 150 trained enumerators have been deployed for the census.

NEPSE index drops 10 points on Sunday trading

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index experienced a double-digit fall on the first trading day of the week on Sunday, dropping 10.29 points to close at 2,610.63. A total of 12.74 million shares from 323 companies were traded 79,702 times, generating a turnover of Rs 5.1 billion. Among the sectoral indices, the Hotel and Tourism group rose 0.62%, Production and Processing increased 1.04%, and the Trade group gained 0.34%. All other sub-indices recorded losses: Banking fell 0.14%, Development Bank 0.80%, Finance 0.13%, Hydropower 0.49%, Investment 0.32%, Life Insurance 0.88%, Microfinance 0.32%, Mutual Fund 0.29%, Non-Life Insurance 0.86%, and Other groups declined 1.69%.

KMC boosts security with high-tech CCTV network

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has accelerated the installation of advanced CCTV cameras to make the city more secure and technology-friendly, providing real-time visual data across wards. Ward Chairman Dal Bahadur Karki said that Ward No. 30 has installed CCTV cameras at 29 locations and is monitoring them through a surveillance room via fiber internet. Ward No. 26 has also set up a surveillance room and installed 77 cameras.

The East-West flag march was launched this morning from the western border transit point at Gaddachauki in Kanchanpur, marking the 25th Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal Day. Celebrating its Silver Jubilee, the Armed Police Force Nepal has initiated the march with the aim of promoting national unity, patriotism, and security awareness, according to the Armed Police Force Baidyanath Brigade in Attariya.

Imports resume in full swing from Rasuwagadhi transit

With the resumption of operations at the Rasuwagadhi border checkpoint, the import of goods from neighbouring China has picked up. According to the Border Security Post, Rasuwagadhi, 18 electric vehicles (EV microbuses) entered Nepal through the checkpoint on Saturday. These vehicles were imported for the first time in the current fiscal year and are currently parked at Timure. The Customs Office stated that the importers are in the process of paying the due revenue.

Gold price down by Rs 2,100 today

The price of gold, which dropped by Rs 11,000 over four days last week, continued its downward trend today. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers, the price of gold fell by Rs 2,100 per tola today (Sunday) to Rs 260,400. Gold prices had declined sharply from Monday to Thursday last week before rebounding by Rs 2,900 per tola on Friday, when the price reached Rs 262,500 per tola. However, the price has declined again today.

NEA to construct new Butwal–Lamahi transmission line

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is set to construct a new 400 kV Butwal–Lamahi electricity transmission line to strengthen power transmission across the country. The 161-kilometre-long transmission line will facilitate the flow of electricity from eastern Nepal to the west and support the transmission of power generated by projects developed along the Gandaki Corridor.

Pathibhara witnesses second snowfall of the winter season

The Pathibhara area has witnessed its second snowfall of the winter season. The first snowfall this season was recorded on December 6. Snowfall began in the Pathibhara region on Saturday evening, leading to a further drop in temperature, according to Rajendra Mahat, an employee of the Pathibhara Area Development Committee.
