Oli accuses PM Balen Shah of making ‘anti-national’ remarks on border issue

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has accused Prime Minister Balen Shah of disrespecting Nepali citizens and making what he called false and anti-national remarks regarding the Nepal–India border issue.

Speaking at a public event, Oli claimed that the Prime Minister had made untrue and nationally harmful statements in Parliament, which he said had no factual basis.

Reiterating Nepal’s official position, Oli said that the country has not encroached upon even an inch of Indian territory. He further alleged that attempts to involve a third party in bilateral border matters were inappropriate.

“Talking against national interest from the parliamentary rostrum is unacceptable. It is full of lies and against the country’s interest,” Oli said.

He also questioned public support for the Prime Minister’s remarks, saying it was surprising that such statements were being backed by some quarters. Oli argued that Nepal–India border issues should be resolved bilaterally without external involvement.

Addressing the Prime Minister directly, Oli remarked that Nepal is not anyone’s personal property. “Our relations with neighbors are handled bilaterally. Nepal is not your private property; it is a country that has existed long before you were born,” he said.

Oli further warned that the current government would not last long, intensifying his criticism of the administration led by Balen Shah.
