No possibility of electoral alliance with NCP: UML Vice-Chair Gurung

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Vice-Chairperson Prithvi Subba Gurung has said there is no possibility of an electoral alliance with the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

Speaking at a program organized by Press Chautari Nepal in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Gurung said that the ideological positions of UML and NCP differ fundamentally, particularly in relation to the incidents of September 8 and 9, making any electoral coordination impossible.

Gurung stated that with the Nepali Congress also indicating it will contest the elections independently, UML will likewise go to the polls on its own.

He argued that NCP is not as committed to the democratic system as UML and the Nepali Congress. However, he noted that limited issue-based cooperation could be possible in some places to counter anarchy, instability and regression.

The UML vice-chair also criticized certain parties and individuals for branding themselves as new while labeling others as old, saying they lack clear agendas.

He asserted that the relevance of parties with a long political history cannot be undermined by such accusations and claimed that his victory in the upcoming elections is assured.
