Trump claims Venezuelan President Maduro detained, taken out of country

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been detained and taken out of the country, along with his wife.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump said Maduro and his wife were taken into custody following what he described as a successful US military operation in Venezuela.

Trump’s statement came after reports of US attacks targeting Caracas and other areas of Venezuela.

“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement,” Trump wrote.

There has been no independent confirmation of Trump’s claim from Venezuelan authorities or international bodies so far.
