Gen-Z protests: Commission sends questionnaire to Deuba and Prachanda

KATHMANDU: The Commission of Inquiry into the incidents of September 8 and 9, 2025, has sent questionnaires to Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. A source in the Commission said that questions related to the incidents have been sent to both leaders.

On September 9, various physical properties were set on fire and vandalized during protests across the country. Deuba was at his residence in Budhanilkantha when the crowd became uncontrollable. Protesters entered his house, bypassing the police deployed for security, and also assaulted Deuba and his wife, Arzu Rana. Both were later rescued by the Nepali Army.

Similarly, Prachanda was inside Singha Durbar during the protests and was rescued by the Nepali Army. The houses of both leaders were set on fire and vandalized during the unrest.

The Commission is now preparing to record a statement from the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Sources said the Commission is drafting a letter to request his statement. Oli has reportedly said he will not appear to give his statement.

However, officials have noted that the Commission can record his statement even if he appears in person. It is not yet clear when the statement will be taken. So far, the Commission has taken statements and collected incident details from more than 150 people related to the events.

Recently, the Commission recorded the statement of the then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. Earlier, it had also taken statements from IGP Dan Bahadur Karki, former IGP Chandrak Kuber Khapung, former Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, former head of the National Investigation Department Hutraj Thapa, IGP of the Armed Police Force Raju Aryal, and others.
