KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Deepak Khadka stated that the government has prioritized the early warning system to reduce damage from flooding.
Speaking at a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee held at Singha Durbar today, he emphasized that the government is focusing on early warning systems to minimize damage caused by rainfall-induced disasters.
“The government is working on the idea that if information about floods and landslides can be communicated to elected representatives at least at the ward level, it will help reduce damage. As this year is expected to bring more rainfall than usual, the government is striving to strengthen the early warning system accordingly,” he added.
He also mentioned that obtaining more detailed information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology would aid in damage reduction.
Minister Khadka said that timely responsibility from representatives and the government will help minimize damage. He further stated that the ministry is working on ways to enhance the electricity development bill.
