Rajbiraj Bus Park comes into operation after 38 years

RAJBIRAJ: The Rajbiraj Bus Park has finally come into operation after a wait of 38 years. The facility was officially inaugurated by Acting Mayor of Rajbiraj Municipality, Israt Parbin, during a special ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Acting Mayor Parbin said that the operation of the bus park in Rajdevi Tole, Rajbiraj-2, will help ease traffic congestion on the city’s main roads.

“Due to the lack of a functioning bus park, managing public transport and market activities had become challenging. Now, both long- and short-distance vehicles will operate from this facility,” she said.

“This is a major infrastructure milestone for Rajbiraj and will contribute to enhancing the city’s beauty.”

The city had long struggled with traffic and vehicle management due to the absence of a proper bus terminal.

The project was repeatedly inaugurated but never completed—first in 2044 BS by then Prime Minister Marichman Singh, then in 2046 BS by Zonal Administrator Surya Bahadur Sen Oli, again in 2052 BS by then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, and most recently in 2074 BS by Urban Development Secretary Dipendra Nath Sharma and then Mayor Shambhu Prasad Yadav—before actual construction finally began.

Progress was delayed for years due to disputes with local landowners and contractor negligence. Now completed, the bus park spans 19,600 square meters near the Rajdevi Temple in Rajbiraj-2 and includes several amenities: an inquiry room, ticket counter, service center, bank branch, waiting room, toilets, restaurant, mini market, assembly hall, and a police station.

The project was contracted to Synergy Builders Pvt. Ltd. by the Ministry of Urban Development for a total cost of Rs 163.896 million.
