KATHMANDU: An international conference of global eye care providers, titled ‘2030 In Sight Live Nepal’, kicked off today in Kathmandu.
Organized for the first time in Nepal by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), the event brings together representatives from IAPB member organizations dedicated to eye health and blindness prevention worldwide.
Participants include international charitable organizations, eye hospitals, academic institutions, and corporate entities, all of whom are part of the IAPB network.
In Nepal, member organizations of the IAPB include Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Nepal Eye Hospital, Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, and the BP Eye Foundation.
According to IAPB’s official website, the agency is a leading global alliance for the eye health sector, comprising over 250 organizations in more than 100 countries. It works toward the goal of universal access to eye care for all.
Last year’s conference was hosted in Mexico. This year’s event in Nepal has drawn approximately 500 delegates from 100 countries, according to the IAPB South Asia Regional Coordinator.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar Mishra, Executive Director of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, said the conference will focus on long-term strategies and plans for the global eye health sector through the year 2030.
General Secretary of the Association, Bharat Bahadur Chand, expressed hope that the event would help internationalize Nepal’s achievements and best practices in eye treatment. “It is a matter of pride that Nepal is hosting such a prestigious global conference,” he added.
