KATHMANDU: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has dispatched a new Korea Overseas Volunteer (KOV), Nanhi Kim, to Shree Buddha Secondary School in Badegaun, Lalitpur.
She arrived in Kathmandu on July 25, 2025, and completed a one-month local adaptation training on August 28 before joining her host organization.
A completion ceremony for the training was held at the KOICA Nepal Office on August 28, 2025, in the presence of representatives from KOICA and the school. Kim will serve for one year in the social welfare sector.
During her adaptation training in Lalitpur, Ms. Kim learned about Nepalese society, culture, traditions, and language. The training program is designed to help volunteers integrate effectively into their communities and host organizations, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to local development.
The primary objective of the KOV program is to transfer Korean knowledge and experiences at the grassroots level. The program aims to improve quality of life in partner countries, foster mutual understanding and friendship between Korea and its partners, and support the achievement of global development goals.
Since 1990, KOICA has dispatched 493 volunteers to Nepal in response to government requests, contributing to sectors such as education, health, agriculture, IT, and tourism.
Currently, 10 KOICA volunteers, including advisors, are actively serving in various government institutions across Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Baglung, Kaski, Ilam, and Kailali.
