Minister asks officials to work in integrated manner for flood control, irrigation supplies



SUNSARI: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha on Saturday inspected the Sunsarikhola embankment site at Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality-4 in Sunsari district.

Inspecting the under-construction project, Minister Shrestha instructed the concerned bodies to work for flood control, river management and irrigation supply in an integrated approach.

After the inspection, Minister Shrestha held discussions with the local community members and people’s representatives.

Likewise, Shrestha directed the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation to immediately identify and implement the projects for irrigation supplies and reduce the flood-induced disaster risks.

On the occasion, the Minister viewed that sustainable river management planning should be advanced in a parallel way to reduce disaster risks.

Similarly, Minister Shrestha enquired about the status of power supply, transmission line and power infrastructures in the eastern part of the country.

He also pledged to work with new strategies to gradually address the challenges in the energy sector and also work for policy reforms.
