Prime Minister to address House before China visit

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will address the House of Representatives on Friday, ahead of his official visit to China. Speaker Devraj Ghimire informed chief whips of major parties about the address during a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday. Oli is scheduled to brief lawmakers on the purpose of his upcoming trip. During the meeting, chief whips also finalized the House calendar for the next 15 days. According to UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartuala, the House will pass the Land Bill on Friday and forward it to the National Assembly. The Citizenship Bill will be endorsed on September 3, while the Constitutional Council Bill, returned by the President’s Office, will be discussed and passed the same day.

Janardan accuses Prachanda’s leadership of causing party split

CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ has said that Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s leadership style was responsible for the split of the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP), which was formed after the unification with CPN-UML. Speaking at a dialogue program on “Current Political Crisis and Way Forward” organized by the Martyrs and Disappeared Memorial Foundation in Butwal, Sharma said the Maoist party is ready to make any sacrifice for party restructuring, warning that failure to reorganize could lead to a serious crisis.

PM Oli surprised by former President Bhandari’s opposition to UML

Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed surprise over former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s stance against the party, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat stated on Tuesday. The clarification comes after reports circulated online and on social media, allegedly quoting PM Oli as saying, “No one in UML can challenge me except Bidya; if she leaves, everything will be fine.” PM Oli’s Secretariat said that such statements were false, misrepresented, and spread for personal gain.

China is set to mark the 80th anniversary of its victory over the Japanese invasion with a large-scale military parade, displaying its armed forces for the first time in front of international leaders. The parade is scheduled for September 3. According to the BBC, the Beijing parade will feature China’s latest weapons, including hundreds of aircraft, tanks, and advanced anti-drone systems. The event coincides with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025, which Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will attend.

Prachanda says efforts to bar Bidya Devi Bhandari from politics are unnatural

CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has described attempts to prevent former President Bidya Devi Bhandari from returning to politics as unnatural. Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday, Dahal said it is common practice internationally for former presidents and vice presidents to re-enter political life, and therefore, there is nothing inappropriate about their return.

Govinda KC announces hunger strike from Sunday

Medical reform activist Dr. Govinda KC has announced that he will begin a new round of hunger strike from Sunday, August 31, in protest against the government’s recent decision on medical education. Dr. KC, who has long been at the forefront of campaigns for medical education reform through repeated hunger strikes and pressure movements, said he was left with no choice after the government ignored his demands.

Cholera outbreak intensifies in Madhesh Province

The cholera outbreak in Madhesh Province is worsening, with 115 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD). The total number of confirmed cases has now reached 540. Of these, 257 patients have recovered and returned home, while 283 are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals, the Ministry of Health reported.

Teachers’ federation stages sit-in at CPN-UML office

The Teachers’ Federation held a sit-in at the CPN-UML party office in Chyasal as part of the first phase of its protest campaign. The demonstration began at 11:00 am and will continue until 1:00 pm. The federation will also submit a memorandum to party officials.

Heavy rains disrupt traffic on nine major roads across Nepal

Continuous rainfall has completely blocked traffic on nine major roads across Nepal, according to the Department of Roads. In addition, 151 road sections are operating with one-way traffic restrictions. Out of the country’s 371 road sections, 211 remain fully open. Department spokesperson Amitkumar Sharma said roads have been damaged by floods, landslides, and inundation, causing disruption in vehicle movement, damage to bridges, and the need for repair work.

Nepal fall to South Australia in last-ball thriller

Nepal suffered a narrow defeat in their first practice T20 match of the Australia tour, losing to South Australia (SA) off the final delivery on Thursday. Defending a target of 147, Nepal pushed the contest to the wire before SA’s T. Brown struck a boundary on the last ball to seal the win. SA finished on 147/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Nick Winter top-scored with 36 runs, while captain Mackenzie Harvey added 27. For Nepal, pacer Sompal Kami impressed with three wickets, while Nandan Yadav claimed two. Skipper Rohit Paudel chipped in with one wicket.

Nepal lose both South Australia T20 clashes in tight finishes

Nepal suffered another close defeat against South Australia (SA) in their second practice T20 match on Thursday, losing by just three runs. Chasing a target of 161 set by South Australia, Nepal was bowled out for 157 in 20 overs. Rupesh Singh scored a quick 37 off 19 balls, while Lokesh Bam contributed 32 off 26 balls. Flights from Pokhara to Australia set to begin soon

Pokhara International Airport is set to launch its first flight connection to Australia, with China’s Sichuan Airlines preparing to operate the route via Chengdu. The airline has submitted a request to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) seeking approval for the flights. According to Gyanendra Bhul, Information Officer at CAAN, Sichuan Airlines has initiated informal discussions to obtain flight permission. Preparations are underway to grant approval once the necessary procedures are completed.

23% of people in Karnali suffer from depression, 42% from anxiety

A recent review of mental health in Karnali Province has revealed alarming statistics, showing that 42 percent of residents suffer from anxiety, while 23 percent experience depression. Additionally, 11.7 percent of the population is reported to be affected by various other mental health issues. The findings were presented during the Mid-term Review and Interaction on Mental Health and Psychosocial Strategy and Action Plan 2079-2087, organized by the Karnali Province Ministry of Social Development with financial and technical support from the Swiss Government and the Centre for Mental Health and Counseling (CMC Nepal) in Surkhet Birendranagar on Wednesday.

NEPSE falls by 38 points

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined on Thursday, closing at 2,781 points, a drop of 38.10 points from the previous day’s close of 2,781. Despite the fall in the benchmark index, overall trading turnover rose. The day’s transactions reached Rs 8.09 billion, compared to Rs 7.68 billion in the previous session. Out of the listed companies, 24 saw gains while 227 declined.

Patan High Court lifts ANFA ban on former president Ganesh Thapa

The Patan High Court has overturned a decision by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) that barred former president Ganesh Thapa from participating in any football activities. The court annulled ANFA’s ban, imposed on July 25, after Thapa challenged it, ruling that the decision did not conform to principles of justice.

Scrap dealers continue protest against KMC despite rain

Scrap dealers continued their protest for the third consecutive day on Thursday, rallying to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) office in the rain while chanting slogans against Mayor Balen Shah. The rally began from Bhrikutimandap and concluded at KMC’s Kamaladi office. Many demonstrators carried the national flag during the march.
