Health Ministry dispatches rabies vaccines and antivenin across Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has dispatched rabies vaccines and snakebite antivenins to all seven provinces to address reported shortages in health institutions under provincial governments.

Dr. Pawan Jung Rayamajhi, Chief of the Management Division at the Department of Health Supplies, confirmed the nationwide distribution. The move follows media reports highlighting vaccine scarcity, prompting Health Minister Pradip Paudel to instruct swift action.

According to the Department, 51,180 vials of rabies vaccine have been delivered, with Bagmati Province receiving the highest quantity at 10,080 vials. Additionally, 1,000 vials of antivenin have been distributed, with Madhesh Province—known for high snakebite cases—receiving the largest share at 2,500 vials.

Ministry Spokesperson Prakash Budhathoki said preparations are underway to further boost supplies over the next two months to ensure consistent availability.
