PM Oli meets New Zealand Deputy PM Winston Peters to discuss bilateral cooperation

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a courtesy meeting today with New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral relations, mutual interests, and expanding multilateral cooperation. Both sides agreed on the vast potential for collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, education, trade, and investment.

Prime Minister Oli informed Deputy PM Peters that his government prioritizes national aspirations of a “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali,” with a focus on stability, development, good governance, social justice, and transformation.

Deputy Prime Minister Peters emphasized New Zealand’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s development and prosperity and called for deeper collaboration between the two countries on the international stage.

Senior officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present during the meeting.

The historical connection between Nepal and New Zealand was also highlighted, referencing the first successful ascent of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953, by Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand’s Sir Edmund Hillary — a landmark event that has long symbolized the close ties between the two nations.
