KATHMANDU: The 32nd meeting of the Executive Committee for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management has projected that this year’s monsoon could severely impact Nepal, with nearly 2 million people likely to be affected.
Chaired by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the meeting held a comprehensive discussion on early forecasts, estimated caseloads of monsoon-related disasters, and the preparedness and response plans of concerned ministries, departments, and agencies.
The committee reviewed responsibilities of key stakeholders and approved the National Monsoon Preparedness and Response Action Plan 2025, which includes updated emergency contact information, inventory of supplies, and deployment details of trained personnel.
Prepared under the leadership of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the action plan estimates that monsoon-related disasters could impact around 457,145 households, affecting a total of 1,997,731 people across the country.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast above-average rainfall across most regions this monsoon season, increasing the potential for floods, landslides, and other weather-related disasters.
