Royalist protest turns chaotic in Tinkune (In pictures)



KATHMANDU: The royalist protest led by Nawaraj Subedi and Durga Prasai has descended into chaos, with demonstrators engaging in violent acts, including attacking public and private properties in Tinkune.

What began as a demonstration calling for the restoration of the monarchy turned into an uncontrolled riot as protesters hurled stones at security personnel, vandalized buildings, and set fire to houses.

The situation escalated after the police intervened, using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd. In response, protesters intensified their attacks, targeting media houses and private residences.

Eyewitnesses reported that protesters pelted stones at the building housing Annapurna Post and also attacked the office of Kantipur Television.

Amid the growing unrest, the police resorted to firing warning shots into the air in an attempt to control the situation.

Fires broke out in multiple locations, including residential buildings, further heightening tensions. Security forces are struggling to restore order as clashes continue. The full extent of the damage and injuries remains unclear.
