Daunne road blocked again

NAWALPARASI: Traffic along the Daunne section of the Mahendra Highway has been halted once again due to the rising water level in the Binayi River, following heavy rainfall on Thursday.

Police announced that vehicle movement was suspended from 7 p.m. Thursday, citing increased flood risk. Authorities stated that traffic will resume only after assessing the weather and road conditions.

This section of the highway has long been considered hazardous and has remained intermittently closed for the past two weeks. Vehicles had briefly resumed travel from Tuesday until Thursday evening.

Previously, the Road Division Office in Bharatpur had restricted the movement of goods and long-distance vehicles along this stretch between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily.

The current disruption worsened after the temporary diversion—constructed following the collapse of the iron bridge over the Binayi River in Dumkibas on Poush 26—was washed away by even moderate rainfall, rendering it unusable.
