Consultative program held in Bhojpur to combat violence against women and children

BHOJPUR: Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality in Bhojpur district has organized a legal consultative program aimed at reducing violence against women and children at the local level.

The initiative seeks to ensure better access to justice for impoverished, marginalized, and minority communities. According to the rural municipality, the program also aims to raise public awareness from a legal perspective, with women representatives and students identified as primary beneficiaries.

Chairman of the rural municipality, Tham Bahadur Rai, said the lack of legal knowledge at the local level has prevented many citizens from accessing their rightful state entitlements.

“The legal consultation includes various sessions that bring issues of domestic violence to the forefront. It helps women and children understand legal provisions related to domestic violence, the complaint process, criminal accountability, and punishment,” he explained.

He added that the three-day program is designed to empower women and children to prevent and respond to domestic violence.

Rai emphasized that once elected representatives are well-versed in legal frameworks, they can play a key role in spreading awareness in their respective communities.

In addition to learning about constitutional and legal provisions related to gender-based violence, participants were trained on how to file complaints and navigate legal processes and penalties associated with such offenses.

Vice Chairman Birendra Rai shared that the event was organized in coordination with the Helping Women Society, based in Kathmandu.
