KATHMANDU: The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) has begun work to implement the eight-point directive issued by Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun.
The directive aims to resolve longstanding problems in curriculum reform and institutional accreditation.
As CTEVT chair, Minister Pun on Thursday instructed the council to prepare a revised curriculum framework incorporating innovation and submit it by the end of Ashoj. He also ordered the creation of a unified academic calendar and a system to publish exam results within three months.
Other directives include establishing a dedicated unit to register and address complaints from students, teachers, and parents, as well as reviewing all institutional accreditation applications submitted since 2012.
CTEVT has been told to submit a report by the end of Ashoj and make immediate decisions on granting or rejecting affiliations.
CTEVT Member Secretary Mahesh Bhattarai welcomed the initiative, saying it reflected the minister’s understanding of the sector’s challenges. He confirmed that implementation work had already started. Currently, around 500 applications for affiliation are under review.
“Even in fields where enrollment pressure is low, institutions have applied for affiliation. Granting approval means ensuring the institution can actually operate, both socially and financially,” Bhattarai said. “We will conclude the process soon in line with the minister’s directive.”
Spokesperson Talendra Acharya noted that institutions that had invested in infrastructure faced uncertainty during the long halt in new affiliations. The process, initiated under former minister Raghujipant, will now move toward a conclusion under Minister Pun’s instructions.
At present, CTEVT oversees 67 constituent schools, 56 partner institutions, 639 community colleges, and 421 private institutions offering technical education in agriculture, forestry, engineering, health, hotel management, and other fields. In addition, 1,850 private training providers run short-term vocational courses under CTEVT’s approval to promote employment and entrepreneurship.
