Cholera detected in 93 people in Birgunj



BIRGUNJ: The number of confirmed cholera cases in Birgunj Metropolitan City has reached 93 as of Monday. Despite efforts by all three tiers of government to prevent and control the outbreak, the number of infections continues to rise.

Until Sunday evening, 71 cases of cholera had been confirmed. According to Jaymod Thakur, Public Health Officer at the Health Office Parsa, a total of 93 infections have now been recorded in the city.

Currently, 166 cholera patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Birgunj, while 178 have already been discharged after recovering.

Cholera infections have been confirmed through RDT testing in 32 patients at Narayani Hospital. Similarly, 32 cases have been reported at Terai Hospital, 12 at National Medical College, and three each at Bhavani Hospital, Birgunj Health Care, and Mangalam Pathology.

Two cholera patients have been reported at Early Ortho Hospital. Additionally, one case each has been confirmed at Narayani Central Hospital, Advance Medicare, Nepal Indo Hospital, Neelkanth Hospital, Nepal Medicity Vyodha Hospital, and Sarvottam Hospital.

So far, a total of 344 patients with diarrhea and cholera have sought treatment in hospitals across the city. Of these, 27 are currently in the ICU, six are in the High Dependency Care Unit (HDCU), and 122 are admitted in general wards.
