KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam has said the government is fully committed to fulfilling the dreams of the martyrs and those injured during the movement.
Speaking at a programme organised in Kathmandu on Tuesday to mark Gen-Z Martyrs’ Day, Gautam said the government had come with good intentions and was fully committed to fulfilling every dream of the martyrs and injured.
She said that after the movement, the people chose new leadership through democratic processes and mechanisms, stressing that the government stands with the people.
Gautam said the current government has been in place for only around four and a half to five months, and that it has taken time to understand and adjust various state structures.
She also noted that despite having nearly a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives, legislation must also be passed by the National Assembly and authenticated by the President, making the process less straightforward.
According to Gautam, the people are directly assessing who is cooperating with the government and who is not in the National Assembly and other state institutions.
She said the government understands that people’s patience may be wearing thin, but those in government are also experiencing the pain and pressure faced by the people.
Gautam urged everyone to move forward with patience and courage, saying that internal disputes and blame games would only create room for opponents to exploit the situation.
She said the events of Bhadra 23 and Bhadra 24 should not be viewed through the same lens, arguing that young people were shot at, suppressed and killed on Bhadra 23.
