Bagmati Cleanup Campaign manages two metric tons of waste in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Continuing its long-running mission with the slogan “Volunteering for the Nation for Two Hours a Week,” the Bagmati Cleanup Campaign managed two metric tons of waste this Saturday.

The cleanup took place from Rudramati Dobhan to Buddhanagar Bridge in Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 10.

The effort marked the 624th week of the campaign, which has been instrumental in revitalizing the Bagmati River and its surrounding areas. According to Bagmati Cleanup Campaigner Kishore Singh Shahi, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Environment Department assisted in managing the collected waste.

The cleanup was led by Ward Chairman Ram Kumar KC, with active participation from Former Bagmati Province Tourism and Culture Minister and Provincial Assembly Member Dipendra Shrestha, Ward Chairman of Kathmandu-11 Hiralal Tandukar, Ward-10 member Satish Tandukar, other local representatives, and residents.

Campaigners have announced that the 625th week of cleaning will focus on the stretch from the Shiva Temple in Rudramati Dobhan (Ward No. 11) to the banks of the Bagmati River. This upcoming effort will be led by the Chairman of Ward No. 11.

Launched on May 19, 2013, the Bagmati Cleanup Campaign has sustained weekly cleanups every Saturday morning, drawing participation from campaigners, elected officials, and community members alike.
