Karnali CM Kandel launches upgrade of key Mulpani-Ranighat-Bhurigaon road

SURKHET: Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Yamlal Kandel, on Saturday inaugurated the upgrade works on the 7-kilometre Mulpani-Ranighat section of the Mulpani-Ranighat-Telpani-Bhurigaon road at Palate, Birendranagar Municipality-2.

This road serves as the shortest route connecting Karnali Province with Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces, making it a vital transport corridor for the region.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Kandel stressed the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities in advancing infrastructure and improving living standards.

He noted that development should not be viewed as the sole responsibility of government agencies and construction companies, but rather as a shared effort supported by positive public engagement, trust, and consistent oversight.

Highlighting the road’s strategic value, the Chief Minister said that once the route is completed, travelers will no longer need to take a detour via Kohalpur in Banke to reach Bardiya and Sudurpaschim. Instead, they can travel directly through this new route.

“Development and construction must move forward without delay, and all stakeholders should take ownership of the process,” he said.

He informed that the road project had initially gone to tender with an estimated budget of Rs 320 million, but the contract was eventually awarded for Rs 180 million. Construction work is already underway.

Describing the road as a gateway to Karnali’s tourism heartland, Kandel called on contractors to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency. He also assured that the provincial government will provide necessary support to resolve any issues that may arise during the project’s implementation.
