Birgunj Customs collects Rs 75.58 billion in four months, misses target by 15%

BIRGUNJ: The Birgunj Customs Office has collected revenue worth Rs 75.58 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2082/83, falling short of the government-set target by 15 percent.

According to the Department of Customs, the office had been tasked with collecting Rs 89.24 billion during the four-month period. While revenue collection in the months of Shrawan, Bhadra and Asoj was encouraging, the momentum slowed in Kartik.

Chief Customs Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali said factors such as the Gen-Z movement, Chhath festival and flooding contributed to lower-than-expected revenue performance in Kartik. He said the office had been meeting targets in the first three months, but collections dipped last month.

Against a target of Rs 23.63 billion for Kartik, the office collected only Rs 17.33 billion.

As per the customs office, collections stood at Rs 18.44 billion in Shrawan, Rs 20.73 billion in Bhadra, Rs 19.09 billion in Asoj and Rs 17.33 billion in Kartik.
