KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on Arghakhanchi Cement after finding that the company had not been operating in compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.
According to the Department, action was taken under Section 39(1) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, for offences outlined in Sections 16 and 38. The decision followed market inspections conducted on Sunday at various industries and establishments in Rupandehi and Kathmandu.
The Department stated in a press release that the companies found violating rules were penalized accordingly. The Act classifies discrepancies related to quality, quantity, pricing, measurement, packaging format, or the sale and delivery of goods and services as unfair commercial practices.
Section 39 allows inspection officers to impose fines ranging from Rs 200,000 to Rs 300,000 on manufacturers, transporters, stockists, importers, sellers or service providers found engaging in such offenses.
Similarly, Tirupati Food Processing Industries in Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi, has also been fined Rs 200,000. Panchakanya Steel received general instructions during the inspection.
