Prachanda says Maoists can’t coexist with brokers and middlemen

KATHMANDU: Chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said that the foundation for transforming the party toward socialism will be a struggle centered on production.

Addressing the first meeting of the party’s Economic Production Department at the central office in Parisdanda on Sunday, Dahal stressed that socialism cannot be achieved without mobilizing the party around production.

He acknowledged that some party leaders had been drawn into rent-seeking, middlemen practices, and donation-driven politics, which he said had weakened public trust in the Maoist Centre. He called for immediate correction of such tendencies.

“If our leaders maintain ties with brokers, contractors, and middlemen, the party will only weaken,” Dahal said, adding that such tendencies have no place in the Maoist Centre.

Referring to the Hetauda General Convention’s slogan of “struggle for production, not war,” Dahal admitted that the decision had not been effectively implemented. He announced that the party would now launch a campaign to directly engage with communities and prioritize production.

He outlined agriculture, industry, herbs, and tourism as key areas for building a self-reliant economy, and stressed the need to orient the cooperative movement toward socialist goals.

Dahal also recalled his party’s past struggles in government against corruption, bureaucracy, and middlemen, and reaffirmed that the Maoist Centre carries the responsibility of building a transformative socialism in Nepal.
