Oli indirectly targets Balendra Shah, calls Singha Durbar arson a ‘planned act by infiltrators’

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need to nurture patriotic, responsible, and disciplined youth in Nepal.

Forced to resign on September 9 following the Gen-Z protests, Oli has been staying in Gundu, Bhaktapur, where he continues to engage in political activities. On Tuesday, he addressed a group of young visitors at his residence.

“Youth should love their country, be responsible and civilized. Being irresponsible and unruly is not the way of youth,” Oli remarked, urging them to focus on studies, avoid deception, and cultivate good character.

He cautioned against the growing tendency of wasting time on trivial social media activities, saying digital platforms should be used productively. “Nepal needs honest and hardworking people,” he added.

Commenting on recent events, Oli said:
“This country is ours, we must build it. But Singha Durbar was set on fire under someone else’s instigation. Those who love the nation would never burn Singha Durbar. It was a planned act carried out by infiltrators. Some had already announced in advance that they would burn Singha Durbar.”

Oli reiterated that those who value Nepal’s history and nationhood could not have been responsible for such acts. He also linked repeated attacks on the International Convention Centre to the same “planned” agenda.

Encouraging the youth not to lose courage, he said Nepal could become a country of responsible and civilized people if values of discipline and integrity were strengthened. “Despite the damage caused by the Gen-Z protests, we must rebuild. We ourselves must build this country,” he emphasized.
