Separate forms no longer required for citizenship and national ID, says Home Ministry

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs Nepal has introduced a new arrangement under which citizens will no longer need to fill separate forms for citizenship and the national identity card.

According to the ministry, the change has been made by integrating the Centralized Citizenship Management Information System with the National Identity Management Information System. With this service integration, applicants will no longer have to separately register preliminary details before submitting biometric data.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal inspected the implementation of the new system on Sunday during a visit to the Lalitpur District Administration Office.

During the inspection, Aryal said the government plans to gradually end the practice of requiring citizens to fill different forms at different offices for similar types of information.

He said the main objective of the reform is to provide easier and more citizen-friendly services by eliminating the requirement for separate application forms when registering details for the national identity card.

Aryal also noted that integrating public services will help strengthen good governance, reduce duplication and save state resources.

He added that around 6,000 to 8,000 national identity cards are currently issued daily and expressed confidence that the new system will directly benefit citizens.
