Sano Gaucharan being transformed into modern playground (Pics)

KATHMANDU: The Sano Gaucharan football ground near Gyaneshwor in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-5 is being transformed into a well-organized modern playground.

Construction is underway to develop a stadium with a seating capacity of around 25,000 spectators. Spread over approximately 18 ropanis, the foundation for the project was laid by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol in November 2024.

The project, being executed by Shubha Nirman Sewa at a cost of Rs 188.7 million, will feature artificial turf, concrete fencing, team changing rooms, medical rooms, toilets, and parking facilities.

According to the contractor, about 50 percent of the work has been completed. The field will be 96 meters long and 62 meters wide. The parking area will accommodate 28 four-wheelers and 178 two-wheelers.

The basement will house 23 women’s toilets and 16 men’s toilets. The ground floor will feature changing rooms, physiotherapy and first aid rooms, and separate preparation rooms for players.

Additionally, basketball, table tennis, futsal, and badminton courts are planned on five ropanis of adjacent land. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-April 2026.
