KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered Durga Prasai to appear in court in custody within 24 hours.

The bench led by Justice Meghraj Pokharel directed that Prasai, a medical entrepreneur, be brought before the court with the grounds and reasons for his detention.

The order stated, “The respondent shall be presented in custody within 24 hours from the date of receipt of this order, excluding the time required for service. A written response shall be submitted through the Office of the Attorney General, along with copies of this order and the writ petition, and after receiving the written response or upon expiration of the time, the matter shall proceed as per law.”

Prasai’s son, Nirajan Prasai, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the direct presentation of his father, claiming he was held illegally. Prasai was arrested by the police on allegations of making statements that disturbed public peace and has been held in the custody of the Kathmandu District Police Office.
