HoR endorses proposal to consider amendment to Children’s Act

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives on Thursday unanimously approved a proposal to consider the Children’s (First Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The proposal was presented by Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi.

Minister Sudi said the amendment was necessary to address gaps in the existing law and would be particularly useful in the management of juvenile correction centers.

“Currently, five correction homes are operated under the federal government, while four are run by non-governmental organizations,” he said. “This bill has been introduced to resolve the problems observed in these facilities. It will also establish a separate judicial mechanism for children’s cases.”

During the discussion, lawmakers Basudev Ghimire, Damodar Poudel Bairagi, Ranjkumari Balampaki Magar, Thakur Prasad Gaire, Prakash Jwala, Bimala Subedi, Sushila Sirpali Thakuri, Bhagwati Chaudhary, Saraj Ahmad Farooqi, Gyanu Basnet Subedi, Rama Koirala Poudel, Javeda Khatun Jaga, Bijula Rayamajhi, Bidhya Bhattarai, Harkamaya Bishwakarma, Prem Suwal, Pratima Gautam, Sapana Raj Bhandari, and Prem Bahadur Maharjan took part in the deliberations.
