KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom has urged its customers not to click on suspicious links embedded in SMS messages, warning that such attempts are being used to steal sensitive login information.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the company said fraudsters have been sending messages from various alert IDs with content such as: “Dear valued customer, your Connect IPS account has been locked. Please verify (different URL addresses) to login and secure it.” Customers are then lured into entering their Connect IPS usernames and passwords, leading to cases of online fraud.
The telecom operator specifically cautioned against links like:
“Nepal Telecom requests all customers to remain alert and refrain from opening such links,” the company said, adding that only official updates from Nepal Telecom’s verified social media accounts (with a blue tick) and its official website should be trusted for service-related information.
