NC President Deuba’s India visit cancelled

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s planned visit to India has been postponed.

Although Deuba was scheduled to depart for India on Thursday, he will no longer be attending the event, confirmed Congress Publicity Department Chief Min Bishwakarma.

Deuba was set to participate as a speaker at the Kumbh Global Summit on Development and Sustainability, which was to be held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

In addition to his summit participation, Deuba had planned to hold several political meetings during his visit to the Maha Kumbh.

The India Foundation had announced his participation, releasing a banner featuring his photo alongside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was also scheduled to attend the event.

The former Prime Minister was set to depart for New Delhi on Thursday at 3 pm via Air India. However, his plans changed shortly after his wife, Foreign Minister Dr Arju Rana, returned from an official visit to Oman the same day.

Krishna Prasad Poudel, Chief Secretary of the Nepali Congress Central Office, confirmed the postponement, attributing it to the lack of high-level meetings in Delhi.

The event was to feature more than a dozen speakers from various countries.
