Land commission commits to resolving land issues in three years

KATHMANDU: The Land Related Problem Resolution Commission has pledged to address all land-related issues within three years.

Central Chairman Hari Prasad Rijal made this commitment during a Madhesh Province-level interaction with stakeholders held in Bardibas on Wednesday.

Rijal stated that the Commission aims to provide land ownership certificates to all landless and unorganized settlers within its three-year tenure.

He emphasized that effective collaboration between the three levels of government, stakeholders, and relevant parties is essential for achieving this goal. The Commission is currently focused on identifying land-related issues, setting priorities, and amending the existing land ordinance to expedite the process.

“We are moving forward by focusing on the problem and examining it in a detailed manner,” said Jagat Basnet, an expert member of the Commission.

He highlighted the Commission’s commitment to maintaining a schedule and addressing issues concerning landless Dalits, squatters, and unorganized settlers through open discussions and continuous interaction.

Central member Krishna Prasai urged district officials to prioritize legal procedures over political pressures, ensuring that the work remains focused and effective.

The event, chaired by Aarti Bhandari, a central member and Madhesh Province Coordinator, was attended by officials from all eight districts of Madhesh Province, heads of the Survey and Land Revenue Offices, land experts, and leaders of the land rights movement.

The Commission’s commitment has sparked new hope among squatters and unorganized settlers in Mahottari who have long awaited land ownership certificates. Rajkumar Basnet, a leader of the land rights movement in Mahottari, expressed optimism about the progress being made.
