Massive ‘No Kings’ protests sweep the U.S. in opposition to Trump

WASHINGTON DC: Large crowds gathered across major U.S. cities—including New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles—on Saturday to protest against President Donald Trump’s policies.

In New York City, thousands of demonstrators filled Times Square shortly after the rally kicked off in the morning, with streets and subway entrances overflowing with people carrying signs that read slogans like “Democracy, Not Monarchy” and “The Constitution Is Not Optional.”

Supporters of Trump, ahead of the rallies, criticized the protests, alleging connections to the far-left Antifa movement and branding the demonstrations a “hate America rally.” However, both organizers and participants emphasized that the gatherings remained peaceful.

According to the No Kings movement’s website, the protests are rooted in nonviolence, and attendees are urged to defuse any potential conflict.

In New York, protesters frequently chanted “This is what democracy looks like” to the beat of drums, cowbells, and other noisemakers, while helicopters and drones monitored the scene from above. Police maintained a presence but kept to the sidelines.

The New York Police Department reported that over 100,000 demonstrators participated peacefully across all five boroughs, with no arrests made. One officer in Times Square estimated that more than 20,000 people were marching along 7th Avenue.
